After the war, the enterprise continued to flourish and Roupen Kalaydjian soon became a
symbol of the new breed of Cypriot businessmen who had begun to drag Cyprus out of the
economic depression of the times. In the 1950s Roupen Kalaydjians two sons, Bedros and Aram,
entered the business and added a wide range of properties and real estate to the Group.
Throughout the period
running up to the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, the two brothers continued in their
work of expanding the business while maintaining a charitable side to their endeavors.
Both made major contributions to benevolent organizations in Cyprus and played a
significant role in social and political spheres on the island.
Following the crisis of
1974, the Group once again regained its momentum and in 1977 expanded into the tourism
sector in Cyprus through the construction of the Kition Hotel Apartments complex in
Larnaca.
Since the 1980s, the
Kalaydjian
Group has been recognized as one of Cyprus leading business organizations,
with interests in many countries and across many industries. More importantly, however,
its founders have established for the Group a reputation for honesty and integrity which
they have expounded not just through business but also in politics. Both Bedros and Aram
Kalaydjian served long terms as Members of Parliament for the Armenian constituency
of Cyprus.
Today, the Kalaydjian Group is managed by the third generation and is a much more diversified and transparent organization. It is still a family-owned business but it has global ambitions.
